What is a cash discount program?

A cash discount program lets your business accept cards without paying the processing cost yourself. Your posted prices are your cash prices. When a customer pays by card, a small non-cash adjustment is added at checkout and shown on the receipt, which covers the processing cost. Customers paying cash pay the posted price.

Is a cash discount program legal in Nevada?

Yes. Federal law allows businesses to offer a discount for paying with cash, and Nevada allows businesses to pass card processing costs on to customers as long as customers are told before they pay. That means signs at the entrance and the register and the adjustment shown on the receipt. Benjamin sets up the signage and receipts with you. Read the full Nevada guide.

What is the difference between cash discounting, dual pricing and surcharging?

With cash discounting, the posted price covers the card cost and cash customers get a discount. With dual pricing, the terminal and receipt show a cash price and a card price side by side. Surcharging adds a fee only to credit card payments, cannot be applied to debit cards, and is limited by card brand rules and Nevada law. Benjamin will help you pick the model that fits your business.

Will I lose customers if I start a cash discount program?

Most customers already know cash and card pricing from gas stations. Clear signs and an itemized receipt keep it transparent, and if you want customers to see both prices up front, dual pricing shows them side by side on the terminal.

How long does setup take?

It depends on your business, your approval and the equipment you choose. Benjamin will give you a clear timeline after he reviews your business, and equipment is programmed before it arrives so you can start taking payments right away.

What do I need to get started?

Usually basic business information, the owner's ID, and the bank account where you want deposits to go. If you already take cards, a recent processing statement lets Benjamin show you exactly what you pay now and what you could save.

Can I keep my current credit card terminal?

Often, yes. Many terminals can be reprogrammed onto a new account. Tell Benjamin the make and model and he will let you know. You can also see the equipment we set up on our products page.

Does cash discounting work for restaurants and tips?

Yes. Terminals built for restaurants handle tips, tableside payment and pay at the table, and the cash discount can be set up to work with your tipping and receipt flow.

Do you offer support in Spanish?

Yes. Sí, hablamos español. Benjamin works with business owners and staff in English and Spanish, from the first call through setup and training.

Do you only work with Las Vegas businesses?

Elite Merchant Solutions is based in Las Vegas and works with businesses in Henderson, North Las Vegas, Summerlin and across the country. Equipment is programmed before it ships.
